How To Collect Seeds

Hey there, fellow green thumbs! Are you looking to save some money and collect your own organic garden seeds? Look no further! In this post, we’ll give you some tips and tricks for collecting and saving your own organic garden seeds.

First things first, it’s important to only save seeds from open-pollinated or heirloom plants, as hybrid plants will not produce true-to-type offspring. Once you’ve identified the plants you want to save seeds from, let them grow until they’re fully mature and the seed pods or fruit have turned brown and dry.

Next, it’s time to harvest the seeds. For seeds that are contained within pods, such as peas or beans, simply wait until the pods are fully dry and brittle, and then remove the seeds by cracking open the pods.

For seeds that are contained within fruit, such as tomatoes or cucumbers, scoop out the seeds and allow them to ferment for a few days. The fermentation process breaks down the gel-like coating around the seeds and makes them easier to save.

Once you’ve harvested the seeds, be sure to dry them thoroughly to prevent mold or rot. Spread them out in a single layer on a paper towel or newspaper and let them air dry for a few days. Once the seeds are fully dry, store them in a cool, dry place in an airtight container.

And there you have it! With these simple steps, you can collect and save your own organic garden seeds and enjoy a bountiful harvest year after year. Happy gardening!
